Your Simple Checklist for Aged Care

Choosing the proper aged care facility can be overwhelming, given the number of choices available. There are many things to consider like the condition of a facility, quality of staff, price, location and services offered. Before you make that important decision and entrust the welfare of your loved one to third-party, here is a quick and easy checklist of things to consider. Click here aged and disability services for more details.

You have to ask the hard questions. How long has this institution been in the industry? Who runs it? What are others saying and can I trust them? Pick a transparent institution with vast experience in aged care.

A good example is Arcare. We are a family owned facility and we provide 5-star aged and disability services. We have been in the business of assisting seniors for almost 50 years. We are passionate about what we do and we treat each person we care for like family. We believe it is of utmost importance to empower them to enable them to enjoy a better quality of life.

We welcomed persons with disabilities in 2013. We always felt that including disability care at Arcare is part of our organic growth. Like our senior residents, we believe that people of different abilities can live their lives to the fullest if they have proper support.

Values and Principles

An institution’s values and principles reveal what is most important for them and what they want to achieve overall. Do they prioritise statistics and grants? Do they focus on research and nurture strong ties with pharmaceutical companies? You have to make sure what they value complements your own values. Our disability care service is guided by 3 principles: holistic support, empowerment and the best professionals. Check out Arcare Glenhaven for more info.

Holistic Support

Genuine care for persons with disability is only possible with holistic support. That means support for the resident, support from and to the resident’s primary carer, and support from and to the community. Depending on agreed upon directives, we can assist with personal care, transportation, domestic duties and chores, and round-the-clock care. We also make sure that our residents build ties with their community and are given ample opportunities to socialise.

We understand that when it comes to people with disability, it’s not a case of “they cannot” do anything by themselves. Rather, it’s a case of they do things differently from what most or “normal” people do to achieve the same results. Here in Arcare, we are ready to support our differently abled family members so that they can live their life, pursue happiness, and live life to the fullest.

Best Talents

We only hire the most qualified and professional talents to assist our residents. On a minimum, each of our support staff has the following qualifications:

  • Certificate III or IV in Disability Care
  • At least Level 2 First Aid
  • Manual Handling Training
  • CPR Training

More importantly, we greatly stress with our staff that this line of work is not just a job – it’s an advocacy.

Considering aged and disability services is a very personal and sensitive issue. But keeping note of these items can make your decision-making process smoother and more focused.
